Sunday, May 20, 2007, saw the marriage of Jennifer Pon to Jakub Sadowski, friends and former employees of mine that I'm glad to see have made life together pleasurable in these odd times. I wish them all the best and I will post pictures of the wedding gift I bought them once I'm sure they have opened it - they are off on they honeymoon now...
Jennifer and Jakub both worked on The Brick's helpdesk years ago and formed a relationship that has blossomed over the years. The wedding was fun, and multi cultural, with Jennifer's Chinese heritage and Jakub's Polish heritage showing through all the time.
Alas, the day was also sad, though I didn't find out until Wednesday morning. Not really an old friend, but a friendly, Canadian Television icon none-the-less, passed away. When I was a young child, Uncle Bobby was a show that I watched every week. I had my name mentioned during the "Bimbo the Clown" birthday segment. If I remember correctly it was sung something like "Bimbo, Bimbo, what you gonna do-e-o, Bimbo, Bimbo, what you gonna say? We wish you a very merry birthday!" and the cardboard clown's mouth would move during the last part. Ahh, the cheap things that we admire as a child. I even won a prize somehow - a toy car that you revved up, pushed a button on the top and it would pop a wheely and zip across the floor, scaring the pets in the process. Again, the simple things in life please us as children.
I also hope that Jen and Jakub have children that can enjoy the simple things in life - though they are a little more high-tech than when I was a kid. Sometimes it's those simple things or memorable people that influence our lives and form lasting memories - such as remembering a song that a cardboard clown sang 30+ years ago!

Thanks for the mushy post Mr. Peanutgnome.
This may be the inner-geek talking but when you're raised with all the flashing lights and noisy doo-dads they don't seem all that complicated, just another simple aspect of life.
I hope to follow this advice, however, since you have just described the true road to happiness.
